Scrim Finder Guide

This guide is for coaches and team captains. It covers the Scrim Finder, the tool for scheduling practice matches against other entries in the same competition. To use it, your team must already be registered in that competition.

1. What the Scrim Finder Does

A scrim is a practice match between two entries in the same competition. The Scrim Finder lets you schedule scrims without league staff. You post the times your entry can play, other entries propose a scrim inside those times, and accepting a proposal creates a match with its own match page and Match Chat. Scrims never count toward standings, seeding or playoffs.

You will find it on the competition page's Scrims tab, which appears when your league offers scrims for that competition. It works as soon as your team is registered, including during registration and preseason, so you can start practicing before the first official match day. Solo titles have a Scrims tab too: each player is their own entry, so a solo scrim is a one-on-one practice match.

The Scrims tab has three views:

  • My Scrim Blocks is where you offer times and respond to incoming requests.

  • Browse Blocks is where you find other entries to scrim and send proposals. The Scrims tab opens on this view.

  • Confirmed Scrims lists every scrim your entries have booked.

1.1 Who Can Use It

Anyone who can view the competition can open the Scrims tab and browse open blocks. Any player on your entry's roster can propose a scrim from Browse Blocks. Offering times and answering requests is reserved for the people who run the team: its coaches and Team Captains. Coaches do not need a seat on the entry's roster to manage scrims, but they need one to report scores or use Flag Admin. Other players see "Your entry's scrim blocks are managed by its captain." under My Scrim Blocks.

If you run more than one entry in the same competition, the Scrim Finder handles all of them together. Your blocks are grouped by entry, and when you create a block or propose a scrim, you choose which entry you are acting for in the Entry picker.

2. Offer Times with Scrim Blocks

A scrim block is a window of time on a specific date when your team is open to scrim. Other teams in the competition can see your open blocks and propose a match inside them.

2.1 Create a Scrim Block

  1. Open your competition and select the Scrims tab, then My Scrim Blocks.

  2. Select Create Scrim Block.

  3. If you run more than one entry in this competition, choose the entry this block is for in the Entry picker.

  4. Under Choose Dates, pick today or any of the next six days. Each date you pick gets its own column.

  5. Under Choose Times, click or drag on each date's column to paint the times your team can play. The columns run from 10 AM to 10 PM in your time zone, times snap to 15 minutes, and each date can hold up to 6 hours.

  6. Under Minimum Proposal Length, pick the shortest scrim you will accept: 30m, 45m, 1h or 1h 30m. Other entries cannot propose anything shorter, and Publish stays greyed out until every time you painted is at least this long.

  7. Select Publish. One block is created for each date you painted, so you can set up a whole week with different times per day in one pass.

While you paint, entries that already have open blocks at the same times are listed under Entries already looking for scrims at these times, each with its date. To play one of them instead, select Propose Instead on its row. Propose Scrim opens with the time you painted already chosen on that block's open time, so you can send it straight away. Publishing your own overlapping block is still fine.

2.2 Manage Your Blocks

Your blocks are listed under My Scrim Blocks, grouped by entry if you run more than one. Each block shows its date and time range, a Min chip with your minimum and an Open chip with the time still free. Requests from other entries appear directly under the block they belong to.

To change a block, select Edit on it, repaint its hours or change the minimum, and select Save Block. A block stays on its date, and you cannot shrink it past a scrim already booked inside it. Pending requests that no longer fit are declined. To take a block down, select Edit, then Delete Block. Scrims already booked inside it are kept, and its pending requests are declined.

When a block's time passes, it expires on its own, so there is nothing to clean up. Post new blocks for the week ahead.

Once a competition has been concluded by its admins, new scrim blocks can no longer be created there.

3. Find and Propose a Scrim

3.1 Browse Open Blocks

Open Browse Blocks to see which entries are looking for scrims. Each open block has its own card with the entry's name, the date and time, a Min chip for the shortest scrim it accepts and an Open chip for the longest stretch still free. Partly Claimed means another entry has already booked part of the block. If your league shows game ranks, the entry's average rank appears beside its name.

3.2 Propose Your Time

  1. Find a block that fits your schedule and select Propose Scrim.

  2. If you are on more than one entry in this competition, choose which one is proposing in the Entry picker.

  3. Drag across the open time to paint exactly when you want to play and for how long. Times snap to 15 minutes, and your proposal must be at least as long as the block's minimum. Times when either entry already has a scrim booked are left out, so you cannot double-book.

  4. Select Propose Scrim at the bottom of the dialog to send it.

Times highlighted in green fall inside the availability you have marked on your own calendar, so a green run is usually your best pick.

Your proposal now shows as a Pending chip on that block in Browse Blocks, and the other entry's coaches and captains are notified. If your plans change before they respond, select Cancel Request on the same card. A request nobody answers expires once its start time passes.

4. Respond to Requests

When another entry proposes a scrim into one of your blocks, your team's coaches and captains are notified, and the request appears under that block in My Scrim Blocks with the proposing entry's name and the requested time.

  • Accept books that time. The scrim becomes a match, and everyone on both entries is notified. Only the accepted time is claimed, and the rest of your block stays open for other entries.

  • Decline turns the request down and notifies the other entry. Your block is unchanged.

When you accept a request, any other pending request that overlaps the booked time, for either entry, is declined automatically, and those entries are notified. Requests for other parts of your block stay open.

5. Play Your Scrim

Every booked scrim appears in Confirmed Scrims, and under the block it came from. Select it to open the match page.

On the match page:

  • Use Match Chat to coordinate lobby details with the other team.

  • A scrim plays the same best-of format as the competition's regular season matches, unless your league set a separate format for scrims.

  • Both entries get an inbox reminder 30 minutes before the start. Scrims have no check-in.

  • Reporting the score with Report Scores is optional. Scrim results never count toward standings, seeding or playoffs.

There is no button to cancel a booked scrim. If plans change, tell the other team in Match Chat. To have the scrim moved or removed, select Flag Admin (the hand icon) on the match page, choose General Support and say what you need. Once a league admin moves or removes it, the time it held reopens in your block.

6. Common Questions

Who can see our scrim blocks? Anyone who can view the competition can browse open blocks. A block shows your entry's name, its date and times, your minimum and how much time is still open. If your league shows game ranks, your entry's average rank appears too.

Do scrims affect our record? No. Scrim results never count toward standings, seeding or playoffs.

Nobody proposed into our block. Did we do something wrong? No. Blocks expire when their time passes. Try posting times earlier in the week, or use Browse Blocks to propose to another entry instead of waiting.

How far ahead can we post? Today and the next six days. Posting a fresh set at the start of each week works well.

Can we scrim a team from another league? Not yet. Scrims are matched within a single competition, so both teams need an entry in it.

Where do the notifications go? To the platform inbox. New, declined, withdrawn and expired requests go to the entry's coaches and captains. An accepted scrim notifies everyone on both entries.
